Time and again, brazen scammers try to rip people off. Now experts are warning of a new nasty scam: it’s an app.
Earn money simply from home? What sounds like a pleasant dream to many is a nasty scam. In a press release, the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) of Upper Austria warns against the cell phone app “Nice.”
Unpredictable pyramid scheme
Based on a non-transparent pyramid system, users believe they can get money quickly and easily. The descriptions of the ” Nice ” tasks and the website are incredibly vague.
The ” Nice ” app also determines how much can be earned. According to the LKA, fraud reports have been piling up in the state in recent days.
Victims pay money to become members and then get the app installed on their phones. After that, they can collect money by clicking on the offered advertising products.
Especially brazen: The highest earnings are supposed to be for recruiting new members. However, a payout never takes place.
The online platform “Watchlist Internet” also warns here urgently against the cell phone app “Nice”: “We advise distance, because here arises for us the suspicion of an illegal pyramid scheme!”
“Watchlist Internet” advises members of “Nice” to get out of the system. Numerous indications of a fraudulent mobile app approach exist: “The product and the activities remain too vaguely described; payments must be made to be ‘allowed’ to work.” Users had reported, for example, that one is immediately excluded from the system in case of critical questions.
A woman (55) was defrauded of 250,000 euros.
Just recently, a 55-year-old woman from Linz became a victim of nasty scammers: she was cheated out of cash and gold worth 250,000 euros. “Her partner caused a traffic accident. He is injured, a man was killed in the accident. You must pay bail immediately!” This is what a fake policeman allegedly told the woman.
